Who's Your Role Model?

Role models have been in the news a lot recently. Apparently we all need someone to look up to and aspire to. Recent celebrity names put forward have been Amey Winehouse and the Spice Girls. As a Christian I have an array of role models to choose from. Paul the Apostle for his dedication and zealousness for the work of the Gospel. The Lord Jesus Christ for his selfless sacrifice on the cross. The Disciples for thier ordinary-ness. In fact the Bible is jam pacted from cover to cover with characters we could all aspire to and take on as role models. Noah for his steadfast faith and refusal to confirm to the world. Daniel for his focus and David for his humility.
And in more modern times Wesley, Spurgeon & Wilberforce. Great men of faith who teach us all that 'He who puts his trust in the Lord shall not be ashamed."

Missing The Nativity

A few parents have voiced their concern at the desicion to ditch the Nativity. I'm not sure how I feel. I doubt the excuse for failing to put it on is in the interest of not offending other faiths! Traditions we once took for granted are being wittled away as we speak. For me Christmas was always an anxious time because I dreaded another year of disapointment and not being chosen to play the part of 'Mary.' Seeing my own children perform always brought joy. I like other parents shall miss it for sure. It would seem the onslaught to remove God from our schools has almost succeeded. School assemblies are frequently overlooked and Christianity is firmly placed on the conveyer belt of 'other religions' to be tolerated. My thought today is that degeneration always starts at the top. We can most suredly look at our Queen and Lambeth Palace as the institutions who started the avalanche.

The Great Teddy Bear Scandle

Gillian Gibson is expected to be freed today after receiving a pardon from the Sudanese President. Amazingly Gillian offered up her regrets at having to leave Sudan. Gillian went to Sudan looking for an adventure...well she certainly got that! Many are scratching their heads at this whole sorry saga. And shock at the scenes of knife wielding hatred splashed across front pages a few days ago. Her terrible crime...she named a Teddy bear after the prophet Mohammed!

I hope and pray that Teachers across our nation will not be persuaded by recent events to live in fear of offending Muslims. Perhaps the strong reaction by Muslims within Sudan will show up the false claim that Islam is a peace loving and tolerant religion!
